As the fall season approaches, the trucking industry is gearing up for one of the busiest times of the year. With the holiday season just around the corner, the demand for freight transportation increases, and at Cooper Freight, we are actively recruiting over the road (OTR) truck drivers to join our team. Professional truck drivers are the backbone of the American economy. Visit any grocery store, business, or medical facility in the Mid-South, and that becomes immediately obvious. Whether you are buying clothing at a retail store or a filling up your tank at a gas station, nearly every part of our lives is impacted, and made possible, by the work of a professional truck driver.  

During Brake Safety Week, commercial motor vehicle inspectors focus on the importance of brake systems by conducting inspections and removing commercial motor vehicles found to have brake-related out-of-service violations from our roadways.

At Cooper Freight Service, we take safety seriously which includes everything from getting a good night’s rest to conducting a thorough pre-trip inspection before hitting the road. Our OTR Drivers also take steps to protect their skin before driving.

You may not think it, but as an OTR Truck Driver, you may be exposed to harmful sun rays, especially while sitting in a truck cab for many hours every day. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UV (ultraviolet) rays can damage skin in as little as 15 minutes.

June is Great Outdoors Month, a month-long celebration of the outdoors encouraging everyone to embrace the outdoor spirit of America and head outside into the natural world.

During Great Outdoors Month, we celebrate our Nation’s vast array of parks, wildlife refuges, forests, monuments, marine sanctuaries, waters, national conservation lands, and other natural treasures. Every day, Americans across the country draw inspiration and pride from the beauty of our magnificent outdoor spaces. From lush forests in Washington State and coral reefs in the Virgin Islands to snow-capped mountains in Alaska and rolling hills in Vermont—the grandeur of the American landscape fills our souls and fuels our spirit of adventure. These iconic and stunning natural wonders have always been central to our heritage as a people and essential to our identity as a Nation.

While 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness annually, a recent study by Deloitte revealed that less than half receive treatment. A study from the Mental Health in the Workplace Summit also found that mental illness is the leading cause of disability for U.S. adults aged 15 to 44 and that more workdays are lost to mental health-related absenteeism than any other injury or illness. Being an OTR Truck Driver increases your chance of behavioral health implications due to the solo-traveling nature of the career. That’s why Cooper Freight has many programs and resources in place to help their OTR Drivers keep a positive mindset both on the road and at home.

While employers must provide training and guidance to prevent distracted driving, ensuring road safety is ultimately up to individual drivers. Here are some tips drivers should keep in mind to limit distractions behind the wheel:
